Welcome to the Deafness and Hearing Impairment website

Ear

Welcome to the Deafness and Hearing Impairment website. Our site has been created with the intention of providing a comprehensive guide to Deafness and Hearing Impairment, where interested parties can find all the information and links they need. There are an endless number of causes that might result in the loss of your ability to hear.

As well as exposure to high levels of environmental noise, or old age, there are a large number of genetic causes that might cause hearing loss. If some or many of your immediate family have or are suffering from hearing impairment, the chances are greater that you and further generations are more likely to suffer a similar consequence.

illnesses and diseases

There are also a large number of illnesses and diseases that can cause the same, such as some more extreme cases of measles, which can damage the auditory nerves. Meningitis can also damage the cochlea and the auditory nerves too, while even mumps might lead to some form of hearing loss, in one or both ears. Victims of the AIDS virus, as well as all of the other diseases they can experience, are likely to experience serious auditory nerve damage or other issues that might result in hearing impairment.

Other conditions, such as chemotherapy, syphilis, chlamydia, and being born premature, can all lead to significant auditory damage. Some medications can also lead to hearing loss as an unwanted side effect. Some of the chemical involved in chemotherapy can result in irreversible damage. We are always happy to hear your views and feedback regarding our Deafness and Hearing Impairment website.
